The EA Team is made up of a highly skilled group of 15 professionals, each specializing in diverse fields of engineering, architecture, and management. The team is led by Paul J. Vagnetti, and below is an introduction to our key personnel.
Paul J. Vagnetti | Founder
MSCE, PE (PR-20874, FL-81473)
Structural Engineer
Mr. Vagnetti, is the Founder and Principal Structural Engineer of Engineered Advantage, PSC (EA), with over 18 years of experience in the construction industry. Specializing in structural engineering design and project inspection, his expertise spans both the private and public sectors in Puerto Rico.
In 2016, Paul J. Vagnetti, President of EA, became a licensed Certified Engineer in Florida, expanding the firm's services to the state and offering comprehensive engineering solutions.
After Hurricane Irma and Maria in September 2017, Paul J. Vagnetti provided consulting services in the Virgin Islands, assisting private clients with loss claims and insurance settlements. By mid-2018, he took on a key role as the lead engineer in the rebuilding of the Virgin Islands' primary grocery store, Cost U Less, across multiple locations, including St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. Maarten. Additionally, he led engineering improvements for Rite-Way, the main grocery market in the British Virgin Islands.
Recently, Eng. Vagnetti and his team have been leading the reconstruction analysis and design of key public buildings in Puerto Rico, many of which were severely affected by Hurricane Maria in 2017 and the January 2020 earthquake, contributing to the revitalization of critical areas in Puerto Rico.
Andrés Ocampo
Structural Engineer | PE, MSCE, PhD Lic. 28674
Andres Ocampo has over 14 years of experience in the construction industry. His background includes mostly structural engineering. His professional career begins in Cali, Colombia in 2009 as a structural consultant for Ceding S.A.S. designing bridges in steel and concrete.
In 2015, Andres starts his Ph.D. in Civil/Structural Engineer at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. During his Ph.D. he got involved in as a research assistant and as a teacher assistant. In 2019, Andres joins EA PSC as a structural engineer consultant, and at the beginning of 2020, he also teaches structural courses in the Architecture Department of the Polytechnic University of PR.
Christian Reyes
Architect | RA, LEED GA Lic.22070
Registered Architect Christian F. Reyes Sarmiento has seven (7) years of experience in the architectural and construction fields. He holds a professional bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico in Ponce with a Minor Degree in Architectural Visualization. Upon graduation in 2016 he joined multiple firms in the US including Goettsch Partners. A renown firm in Chicago where he had the opportunity to work in multiple projects in China. His main responsibilities included assisting senior associates in developing design drawings and physical models of skyscrapers. As part of the technical staff, he supported the design team in the preliminary stages of design as well as presentation drawings.
Reyes returned to Puerto Rico in 2018 to work for renowned Puerto Rican Architect Segundo Cardona, FAIA at SCF Arquitectos. During his time in Puerto Rico, he managed multiple residential and commercial projects from preliminary design up to construction documents and construction administration. Christian was responsible for attending client meetings and coordinating the projects with consultants as well as submitting all the necessary documentation for permitting.
In 2023, he obtained his license from the Examining Board of Architects and Landscape Architects through the Puerto Rico State Department. Earlier that year he joined Engineered Advantage, PSC, where he oversees architectural design and manages multiple public projects.
David Lugo
Architect in Training, AIT
David Lugo has over 15 years of experience in architectural drafting, measured drawings, record drawings, as-built drawings, architectural design, and in the preparation of detailed construction documents.
Mr. Lugo started working with EA in 2017 as an architect in training (AIT) after graduating from a bachelor's degree in Architecture with a minor degree in Sustainability. Mr. Lugo manages the As-built department using high tech equipment such as laser and drones video. Mr. Lugo is also in charge of the construction documents for the projects, including construction drawings, technical specifications, and AIA contracts.
Carlos Zamora
Architectural Designer | LEED
Arch. Carlos Zamora is a certified LEED architect with over 12 years of experience in the architectural practice services for commercial shopping centers, high-rise apartment buildings, walk-ups apartment buildings, office buildings, institutional buildings, residential developments, industrial buildings, and recreational facilities.
Carlos Zamora joined Engineered Advantage in 2022, and since his arrival he has overseen the Hazard Mitigation Design Project for the Intendente Ramirez Building (Treasury Department) which is a project of 924,000 construction square feet as well as many other design projects.
Michelle Colón Malavé
Architectural Designer
With a diverse professional background in design, space planning, landscape architecture, and sustainability, Michelle joined Engineered Advantage, PSC in 2024 to contribute to the design of Puerto Rico's schools impacted by various atmospheric disasters among other projects.
Michelle began her studies at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico’s Arqpoli: New School of Architecture. She then pursued a Master’s in Architecture and Sustainability, specializing in Design Tools and Environmental Control Techniques, at ETSAB, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain. Subsequently, she earned a Master of Landscape Architecture from ETSAB, further enhancing her expertise in landscape design and planning.
In addition to her formal education, Michelle has participated in various workshops, symposia, and certifications, such as the 2023 Heritage Risk & Resiliency Documentation Program and the 6th European Biennial of Landscape Architecture in 2010. Her commitment to staying at the forefront of the field is evident through her ongoing professional development, including certifications and study trips across Europe, where she gained valuable insights into sustainable urban planning and eco-districts.
José Pérez
Structural Draftsman
José Perez is a draftsman with more than 25 years of experience in structural detailing including structural steel, cast in place concrete, precast concrete, and wood.
Mr. Pérez has been working with Eng. Vagnetti for the past 14 years and he joined EA permanently in 2015.
Paola C. Vilches
Project Manager & Permits Coordinator
Ms. Paola Vilches has been providing services to EA since 2018. Paola has a bachelor's degree in business administration and is currently involved in the PMP Certification expected to be finished in July 2025. Paola collaborates with consultant coordination on a daily basis as well as client interaction to meet project goals and schedule. She is also in charge of the permitting phase of projects, contract compliance, and project closeout.
